Botox
Conveniently located to serve the areas of Tualatin and Portland, Oregon

Botox is an injectable treatment used to help reduce and prevent the appearance of fine lines and creases. This treatment is a neuromodulator, meaning it relaxes wrinkles and smooths the appearance of the skin. By targeting the wrinkle-causing muscles directly, Botox can effectively provide patients with a more relaxed appearance. Neuromodulator injections were the most popular minimally invasive procedure performed in 2023, with specialists performing over 9.4 million procedures, a 9% increase compared to the year before. (1)

About Botox
Botox is a neuromodulator that can help reduce the amount of fine lines and wrinkles in the face through the use of a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin A. When injected, Botox acts on nerve endings, blocking the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contractions. (2) Without muscle contractions, deep wrinkles and fine lines cannot form in the treatment area, leaving patients with smoother skin. (2)

Preparation
Because Botox is a minimally invasive injection, there is little preparation involved compared to other treatments. While we will provide each patient with a set of preparation instructions at their personal consultation, patients can generally expect to be asked to avoid the use of certain medications or supplements that may contain blood-thinning properties, as well as the consumption of alcohol before their appointment. Harsh skincare, such as retinol and exfoliants, should be avoided leading up to the procedure, and patients should attend their appointments free of any makeup or skincare products. It is also important to avoid any potential sun damage, as this may lead to patients being forced to reschedule until the damaged area is healed.
Procedure
The procedure begins by cleansing and sterilizing each patient’s treatment area. We may apply a topical anesthetic to help minimize any discomfort, however, some patients may find the numbing to be unnecessary. Your injector will then carefully administer the Botox into the treatment area, targeting parts of the face and neck that experience more movement. The duration of the treatment usually lasts between 10-15 minutes, making this an ideal procedure for busier patients.
Recovery
After your Botox injections, your injector will instruct you on what products and activities you should avoid after your treatment. Recovery is often minimal, with many patients able to return to their daily routine immediately. Rubbing or touching the treatment area should be avoided for several hours following the treatment, and patients should refrain from intense physical activity for at least 24 hours. Redness, swelling, and light bruising may be experienced at the treatment area, but gradually subsides by itself within a few days.
Results
The result of each patient’s Botox treatment can be seen starting around 3-4 days following the initial treatment, with the full results typically appearing about two weeks following the initial appointment. The appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet will be softened and minimized, with the overall face appearing more smooth and youthful. The results of the treatment can be experienced between 3-4 months before being recommended for reinjection. (4) Durations may vary.
Complementing Procedures
Oftentimes, patients are interested in combining their Botox treatment to help maximize their benefits and achieve a heightened level of enhancement and rejuvenation. There are a variety of treatments we offer to complement Botox injections, including:
- Dermal Fillers: Dermal fillers are an injectable treatment that can be used to help restore lost volume to the face. These injections are often designed to restore areas such as the nasolabial folds, lips, and cheeks.
- Fraxel Lasering: Fraxel Lasering helps target fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, and even sun-damaged skin through the use of laser technology. This treatment helps heal the skin by initiating the body’s natural healing response while preserving the surrounding tissue.
